Streetcars return to Lake Shore West. starting November 19

The TTC is resuming streetcar service along Lake Shore Boulevard West through the communities of Long Branch, New Toronto and Mimico during all times, except overnight.

It’s reviving the former 507 Long Branch route, so that cars drop off or pick up passengers at stops between Long Branch and Humber loops every 10 minutes every day before about 10 p.m. After 10 p.m., the TTC is extending service along the 501 Queen route to Long Branch.

The TTC previously operated streetcars along the Long Branch route (later 507 Long Branch) from 1935 until 1995.

Despite the headline of this post, the TTC has operated some streetcar service along Lake Shore West since Monday, October 30. Streetcars along the 508 Lake Shore route operate five eastbound trips between Long Branch and downtown Toronto Mondays to Fridays during morning rush hours and five westbound trips toward Long Branch afternoons.

The TTC continues to operate service along Queen streets east and west, The Queensway and Lake Shore West in sections due to an ongoing construction project:

  • Route 501A streetcars between Humber and McCaul loops;
  • Route 501B buses between Bathurst Street and Broadview Avenue. (Route 501B buses detour eastward along Bay Street, King streets west and east and Church Street; westward along Church, Richmond streets east and west and Bay, due to ongoing Metrolinx construction of the future Ontario Line subway on Queen streets east and west between Victoria and Bay streets);
  • Route 501C streetcars between Long Branch and McCaul loop (after 10 p.m.);
  • Route 501D streetcars between Church Street and Neville Park Loop; and
  • Route 507 streetcars between Long Branch and Humber loops (before 10 p.m.).

Buses continue to replace streetcars along the 301 Queen overnight route. The buses operate along the regular route 301 path between Long Branch and Neville Park loops, but detour between Bay and Church streets due to the Ontario Line construction.
