The TTC is closing part of Line 2 Bloor - Danforth subway between Kennedy and Warden stations Saturday, December 2 and Sunday, December 3. Line 2 trains operate only between Warden and Kipling stations this weekend.
Frequent shuttle buses partly replace the trains, stopping in both subway-station bus terminals.
(Or, consider a shuttle-bus alternative.)
While this section of Line 2 is closed, TTC crews are maintaining the tracks. And, in a report to the Toronto Transit Commission, TTC staff identified early work on a future project to install automatic train-control signals as one of the reasons for this closure.
Both stations remain open so you can pay fares or connect with TTC buses and streetcars or GO Transit trains.
Since Warden Station is not yet an accessible station, if you’re travelling eastbound along Line 2 and need an accessible connection, exit the train at Victoria Park Station and ask a TTC customer service employee for help or directions.
According to a TTC news release, “While the TTC does most subway maintenance at the conclusion of service each night, it continues to require weekend and early weeknight closures to complete critical infrastructure and state-of-good-repair work.”
Shuttle-bus alternatives
One way that you can reduce the impact of the closure is by planning ahead, leaving earlier than usually and giving yourself more time to get to where you’re going.
Although shuttle buses replacing subway service will be frequent, they may also be crowded.
Regular TTC buses and streetcars provide less frequent, less direct, but, perhaps, less stressful alternatives.
Consider boarding regular TTC buses between subway stations on the closed section of the line and stations on open sections as a way to bypass the shuttle buses entirely.
Board:
- buses along the 12A / 12B Kingston Rd route between Kennedy and Victoria Park stations; or
- buses along the 20 Cliffside or 113 Danforth routes between Kennedy and Main Street stations.
