Since fall 2021, York Region contractors have been rehabilitating a 1.5-kilometre section of the York Durham Sewage System that extends under
- 16th Avenue (Regional Road 73) between west of Williamson Road to west of Mingay Avenue
in the City of Markham.
The project includes:
- installing a temporary sewage bypass pipe;
- rehabilitating two access shafts;
- relining the trunk sewer; and
- other work.
Starting 9 p.m. Friday, July 5, the Region and City are closing
- Markham Road (Regional Highway 48), north- and southbound lanes, at 16th Avenue
to accommodate the next phase of the project.
The Region is also restricting traffic lanes on:
- 16th Avenue, east and west of Markham Road / Main Street North; and
- Main Street North, south of 16th Avenue.
The TTC is detouring buses along this route, while the street is closed:
- 102 Markham Rd.
Closing this part of Markham Road to traffic likely requires GO Transit to detour buses along these routes:
- 70 Uxbridge / Stouffville / Markham; and
- 71 Uxbridge / Stouffville / Toronto.
However, GO has not announced detour-routing information.
Also, York Region Transit passengers aboard buses along this route can expect delays near Markham Road / Main Street North:
- 16 16th Avenue.
This phase of construction on Markham Road and 16th Avenue and the resulting GO, TTC and YRT service changes continue until July 8 (5 a.m.).
