The TTC is closing Line 1 Yonge - University subway between Eglinton and College stations earlier than usually from Tuesday, September 3 until Friday, September 6. Line 1 trains operate only between Vaughan Metropolitan and College stations and between Finch and Eglinton stations after 11:59 p.m. those evenings.
Shuttle buses partially replace subway service. The buses stop on the street near each of the stations on the closed section of the line.
Most stations on the closed section remain open so you can buy or pay fares or connect with TTC buses, streetcars and Line 2 Bloor - Danforth trains. However, Summerhill and Rosedale stations are closed. Note also, that the TTC is closing entrances / exits at two more stations after 11:59 p.m.:
- Bloor Station — Hayden Street entrance / exit; and
- Wellesley Station — Dundonald Street entrance / exit.
While this part of the subway line is closed, TTC crews are renewing the tracks.
College Station is not accessible. Passengers travelling northbound who require an elevator can exit trains at Dundas Station and speak to any TTC employee for directions or help. Extra Wheel Trans vehicles operate along Yonge Street between Eglinton and College stations.
According to a TTC news release, “While the TTC does most subway maintenance at the conclusion of service each night, it continues to require weekend and early weeknight closures to complete critical infrastructure and state-of-good-repair work.”
The TTC is closing this section of Line 1 at least twice more in September:
- Monday, September 16 until Thursday, September 19 — Sheppard - Yonge to St Clair— close early — track work.
- Saturday, September 21 — Sheppard - Yonge to St Clair — track work.
