Metrolinx is building the Ontario Line subway between Exhibition Place / Ontario Place and the area near the former Ontario Science Centre, through downtown Toronto.
From 9 p.m. Friday, September 27 until 5 a.m. Monday, September 30, the City of Toronto is closing
- Queen Street East between McGee and De Grassi streets,
near the site of the future Riverside - Leslieville Station, to all traffic, while Metrolinx contractors install a rail-bridge deck for the new subway line.
To accommodate the work, the TTC is detouring streetcars along these routes, 9 p.m. Thursday, September 26:
Shuttle buses replace the cars between Carlaw and Broadview avenues.
TTC detours during this phase of Ontario-Line construction continue until October 2.
During this phase of work at the Queen Street East rail bridge, crews work overnight work to install the the bridge girders, but limit disruptive work to daytime. They have already demolished the old bridge abutments and continue to build new abutments. They will complete the new abutments before installing the new bridge deck.
Abutments are the structures at each end of a bridge that connect the bridge to the ground and support the weight of the bridge deck. Crews have build new wider abutments to replace the abutments they have demolished.
A crane will lift the new bridge girder and deck into place. Crews weld and use hand tool during this process. Expect noise from the crane and hand tools. They will install various measures to reduce the noise, including temporary noise barriers and noise-reducing equipment, as necessary.
