TTC transit control continues to ask subway operators to reduce their speed through certain areas of the subway system “as a safety precaution”. The TTC explains that the reduced speed zones allow trains to run safely during service hours while minimizing disruptions to [passengers]. According to the TTC, they also protect workers who may be required at track level to conduct routine or emergency inspections.
Here’s where reduced speed zones are in effect on Lines 1 and 2:
- Line 1 Yonge - University:
- Southbound between Lawrence West and Glencairn stations;
- Southbound between Eglinton West and Dupont stations;
- Southbound between St Clair and Summerhill stations;
- Northbound between Bloor and Rosedale stations;
- Both ways between Union and St Andrew stations;
- Both ways between Wellesley and Bloor stations;
- Both ways between Dupont and St Clair West stations;
- Both ways between St Clair and Davisville stations;
- Both ways between Lawrence West and Sheppard West stations.
- Line 2 Bloor - Danforth:
- Eastbound between Coxwell and Woodbine stations;
- Westbound between Jane and Old Mill stations;
- Westbound between Castle Frank and Sherbourne stations; and
- Both ways between Victoria Park and Warden stations.
At reduced speeds, trains are moving at between 15 and 25 kilometres per hour (km/h), instead of normal speeds of 40 to 50 km/h.
