No subway service, October 26, 27: Kennedy to Victoria Park

2024 - 10-26 - Kennedy to Victoria Park.png

This weekend, Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27, the TTC is closing part of Line 2 Bloor - Danforth subway between Kennedy and Victoria Park stations. All Line 2 trains operate only between Victoria Park and Kipling stations this weekend.

Shuttle buses partially replace subway service, stopping in the terminals of all three stations on the closed section of Line 2.

(Or, consider a shuttle-bus alternative.)

While this part of the subway line is closed, TTC crews are maintaining the tracks.

Warden Station is not accessible. If you’re travelling westbound to Warden and require an elevator, speak to any TTC employee in Kennedy Station for directions or help. If you’re travelling eastbound and require accessible service, exit the train at Victoria Park Station and ask for directions or help. The TTC is assigning extra Wheel Trans vehicles to operate between Kennedy and Victoria Park stations.

According to a TTC news release, “While the TTC does most subway maintenance at the conclusion of service each night, it continues to require weekend and early weeknight closures to complete critical infrastructure and state-of-good-repair work.”

The TTC is closing this section of Line 1 at least twice more during October and early November:

  • Monday, October 28 until Thursday, October 31 — Kennedy to Victoria Park — close early — track work.
  • Saturday, November 2 and Sunday, November 3 — Kennedy to Victoria Park — track work.

Shuttle buses

(We’ve based this part of the post on information the TTC has supplied about shuttle-bus service during previous subway closures. Note that this is unofficial information. The TTC may operate buses with a different service pattern this time.)

Westbound buses start their trips in Kennedy Station bus terminal, then proceed:

westward along Transway Crescent;
southward along Kennedy Road;
westward along St. Clair Avenue East;
south- and westward through Warden Station bus terminal;
northward along Warden Avenue;
westward along St. Clair East;
southward along Victoria Park Avenue;
eastward along Denton Avenue; and then
northward into Victoria Park Station bus terminal,
ending their trips.

Shuttle bus alternatives

One way that you can reduce the impact of the closure is by planning ahead, leaving earlier than usually and giving yourself more time to get to where you’re going.

Although shuttle buses replacing subway service will be frequent, they may also be crowded.

Regular TTC buses provide less frequent, less direct, but, perhaps, less stressful alternatives.

  • Board buses along the 8 Broadview route to travel between Warden and Broadview stations.
  • Board buses along the 12A / 12B Kingston Rd route to travel between Kennedy and Victoria Park stations.
  • Board buses along the 20 Cliffside or 113 Danforth routes to travel between Kennedy and Main Street stations.
  • Board buses along the 135 Gerrard route to travel between Warden and Main Street stations.
