Update — Thursday, November 14, 2:46 p.m.: The post now includes information about extra Durham Region Transit and York Region Transit services after the conserts.
Tens of thousands of “Swifties” are descending on downtown Toronto during Taylor Swift’s six Eras Tour concerts in the Rogers Centre and the pre-concert Taylgate’24 events in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
To accommodate the 60,000 fans attending each of the Taylor Swift shows, the City of Toronto is restricting traffic in the area, which means that many of those fans are relying on public transit to get around. Since overlapping events are also taking place at Scotiabank Arena and other nearby venues those same evenings, GO Transit and the TTC plan to provide extra service from Thursday, November 14 until Saturday, November 16 and from Thursday, November 21 until Saturday, November 23. And, Durham Region Transit and York Region Transit will add extra late-night service to help get you home after the concerts.
GO is adding extra trains along the 01 Lakeshore West and 09 Lakeshore East lines to help get you to and from the events safely. It’s also operating a special late-night train along the 21 Milton line to get you home safely from the concert. It’s revising service for trains along the 31 Kitchener, 65 Barrie and 71 Stouffville lines. And, it’s adjusting some GO bus schedules because it’s expecting heavy traffic in downtown Toronto before and after the events.
GO plans to have wayfinding signage and extra staff at Union Station to guide you to the concert and back and extra staff at busy stations across the GO network.
The TTC is adding extra service along these lines and routes:
- Line 1 Yonge - University;
- Line 2 Bloor - Danforth;
- 19 Bay / Swiftbus;
- 504 King;
- 509 Harbourfront;
- 510 Spadina / Swiftbus;
- 511 Bathurst; and
- 998 King / Swiftcar.
Wheel-Trans will continue to operate regular service; however, extra Wheel-Trans vehicles will be on stand-by in various locations downtown, between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. on concert days only, to help passengers getting to and from the concerts and Taylgate24. Wheel-Trans passengers can ask TTC staff for help or directions.
The TTC is also making efforts to provide additional surge service, where possible, including extra buses in the event of a subway shutdown. It will post signs at stops on the various routes and prepare a special ride guide for the Eras Tour events. The information will also be available at ttc.ca/taylor to allow you to plan your trip in advance.
To maintain safe and smooth operations and, in the event of an unplanned disruption or emergency, the TTC is deploying dozens of additional staff along all routes in the area of Rogers Centre and Union Station.
This includes strategically deploying supervisors, special constables and other first responders in subway stations throughout downtown. The TTC is also assigning staff to key street-level locations to help with directions, suggest alternate route and monitor station crowding.
Immediately after the shows, the TTC will monitor and control access to the Union Station subway entrance to ensure crowds remain manageable and to avoid platform crowding. You can only access Union Station after the concert from the stairs on Front Street or through the accessible entrance (moat entrance) off Front Street West and Bay Street, if you need elevator access.
The TTC says, “To keep the station safe and so everyone has a bit of room to keep dancing, staff may limit the number of people that can enter the station at a time, which may result in a line-up to get in. Please be patient, keep singing and dancing and we will quickly and efficiently get everyone in, in the safest way possible.”
Durham Region Transit will continue to provide regular all-night service along Routes N1 and N2. And On Demand services are still available. However, to accommodate extra travel from Toronto after the events, DRT is operating buses along four late-night special routes, providing drop-off only service from Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Durham College Oshawa GO stations.
York Region Transit is also operating later service along several routes after the concert. Exta staff at Finch GO Bus Terminal, Richmond Hill Centre Terminal and Smart VMC Bus Terminal will help answer you questions and get you home. Mobility On-Request Paratransit vehicles will be on standby to provide service, if necessary.
