St Clair Avenue streetcar infrastrucure improvements: TTC resumes service into St Clair West Station terminal

As part of the TTC’s plans to maintain a state of good repair and continue to modernize its streetcar system, it has been upgrading the streetcar overhead power system and renewing other infrastructure in the terminals at St Clair West and St Clair stations and at several sites on St. Clair Avenue West since Tuesday, September 3, 2023.

The transit agency is now finishing work at St Clair West Station — nearly two weeks earlier than it planned.

Starting Thursday, November 14, streetcars along this route resume service through the station:

  • 512 St Clair.

The cars also resume service along St. Clair avenues west and east. (The TTC temporarily detoured the cars to operate to and from Bathurst Station starting Monday, October 21 due to emergency water-main repairs near Deer Park Crescent. It replaced streetcars with buses along the entire route, starting Friday, November 1.)

Starting Sunday, November 17, buses along these routes resume service to and from St Clair West Station terminal, instead of dropping off or picking up passengers on the street:

  • 33 Forest Hill; and
  • 126 Christie.

Also starting November 17, buses along this route resume service to and from St Clair West Station terminal, instead of operating to and from Bathurst Station:

  • 90 Vaughan.

Streetcars along the 312 St Clair overnight route resume regular service — passing through St Clair West station terminal, but not stopping there (because the subway isn’t usually operating when night cars are.)

126 Christie

Starting Sunday, November 17, buses again start and end their trips in St Clair West Station terminal. They no longer drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops on St. Clair Avenue West beside St Clair West Station. And, the TTC no longer interlines buses along the route with buses along the 33 Forest Hill route.

512 St Clair

Starting Thursday, November 14, streetcars resume regular service along the entire route between Gunns Loop and St Clair Station (at Yonge Street). They also again stop in St Clair West Station terminal. Buses no longer operate along the route.

90 Vaughan

Starting Sunday, November 17, buses again start and end their trips in St Clair West Station terminal, instead of Bathurst Station terminal. The TTC is cancelling the 90C branch of the route — 90C was how the transit agency designated buses that operated to and from Bathurst Station.

Southbound buses no longer drop off or pick up passengers at temporary stops

  • on Vaughan Road at St. Clair Avenue West,
  • on Bathurst Street at Alcina Avenue and Davenport Road, beside #1138 Bathurst and at Dupont Street and Olive and Barton avenues and
  • in Bathurst Station terminal.

TTC buses along the 7 Bathurst route continue to serve passengers at all these stops, except for the stop on Vaughan at St. Clair West. The TTC is cancelling service to that temporary stop.

Instead, southbound buses resume serving passengers at their regular stops

  • on St. Clair Avenue West beyond Vaughan Road and Bathurst Street and
  • in St Clair West Station terminal.

Northbound buses no longer serve passengers at temporary stops

  • in Bathurst Station terminal,
  • on Bathurst Street at Barton Avenue and Wells and Dupont streets, beyond Bridgman Avenue and at Davenport Road, Nina Street and St. Clair Avenue West.

Instead, northbound buses resume serving passengers at their regular stops

  • in St Clair West Station terminal and
  • on St. Clair Avenue West beyond Bathurst Street.

Transit agencies often interline transit vehicles along two or more routes with a common terminal to save resources — human resources (drivers) and physical resources (vehicles). For example, until Saturday, November 16, when a northbound bus along the 126 Christie arrives on St. Clair Avenue West beside St Clair West Station, it continues northward along the 33 Forest Hill route. It completes a round trip along route 33 before returning to the station and then continues southward along route 126.
