The TTC is closing Line 1 Yonge - University subway between St George and St Andrew stations earlier than usually, Monday, January 27 until Friday, January 31. Line 1 trains operate only between Vaughan Metropolitan and St George stations and between Finch and St Andrew stations after 11 p.m. those days.
Shuttle buses partially replace subway trains. The buses operate along streets, stopping near all stations on the the closed section of Line 1.
The TTC is encouraging passengers travelling downtown to transfer to Line 2 Bloor - Danforth trains at St George Station and then connect with Line 1 trains along the Yonge branch of Line 1 at Yonge Station. It also advises boarding eastbound streetcars at Queen’s Park, St Patrick, Osgoode or St Andrew stations and then transferring to Line 1. It’s adding extra service to streetcars along the 501 Queen, 504 King, 505 Dundas and 506 Carlton routes to support this connection.
Some stations on the closed section of the subway remain open so you can buy PRESTO fares or tickets or connect with TTC buses and streetcars. However, Museum, Queen’s Park and St Patrick stations are closed.
Extra standby Wheel-Trans vehicles are available throughout the downtown area. The TTC is also assigning extra staff at all downtown stations to help you find your way.
During the closure, the TTC intends to:
- continue “Easier Access” elevator construction at Museum Station;
- upgrade station tiles at Queen’s Park and St Patrick stations; and
- maintain the tracks between St George and St Andrew stations.
According to a TTC news release, “While the TTC does most subway maintenance after service each night, it continues to require weekend and early weeknight closures to complete critical infrastructure and state-of-good-repair work.”
The TTC is closing this section of Line 1 at least three more times in February:
- Saturday, February 1 and Sunday, February 2 — St George to St Andrew — elevator installation, station upgrades and track work.
- Monday, February 10 until Friday, February 14 — Bloor to Osgoode — close early — track work.
- Tuesday, February 18 until Friday, February 21 — Bloor to Osgoode — close early — track work.
