The TTC is advising passengers that it’s detouring streetcars along this route from 11 p.m. Friday, February 14 until about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, February 15 “due to streetcar infrastructure work:”
- 509 Harbourfront.
According to a TTC staff report (.pdf) to the Toronto Transit Commission (the TTC board), the transit agency is detouring the cars to accommodate crews who are inspecting and maintaining the overhead wiring and tracks in the Harbourfront tunnel.
Shuttle buses replace the cars west of Lower Spadina Avenue.

From 5 a.m. Sunday, February 16 until about 1:30 a.m. Family Day, Monday, February 17, the TTC temporarily cancels all streetcar service along route 509 and operates buses along the entire route.
Crews continue to inspect and maintain infrastructure in the tunnel, but may also be getting ready for an upcoming City of Toronto / TTC project to replace the water main and streetcar tracks
- at the intersection of Bathurst Street with Lake Shore Boulevard West and Fleet Street.
509 Harbourfront
From 11 p.m. Friday, February 14 until about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, February 15, eastbound cars operate along their regular path to Queens Quay West at the entrance into Spadina / Queens Quay Loop, then detour:
northward into the loop,
ending their trips.Eastbound cars skip their regular stops
- on Queens Quay West at Rees Street and beside the Harbourfront Centre and
- in the Harbourfront streetcar tunnel
- at Queens Quay Station and
- at Union Station.
Instead, eastbound cars drop off passengers at a temporary stop
- in Spadina / Queens Quay Loop.
Shuttle buses replace the cars east of Lower Spadina Avenue. Eastbound streetcar passengers may board eastbound buses on the south side of Queens Quay West east of Lower Spadina.
Westbound cars start their trips in Spadina / Queens Quay Loop, then proceed:
southward along Lower Spadina Avenue to Queens Quay West,
resuming their regular path westward along Queens Quay.Westbound cars skip their regular stops
in the Harbourfront streetcar tunnel
at Union Station and
at Queens Quay Station and
on Queens Quay West at Lower Simcoe and Rees streets.
