Bathurst / Richmond West streetcar-infrastructure work: TTC detour, starting April 11

The TTC is advising passengers that, starting 11 p.m. Friday, April 11, it’s detouring streetcars along this route “due to streetcar-infrastructure work:”

Shuttle buses replace route 511 cars south of Queen Street West. (The buses are already operating due to another construction project — at the intersection of Bathurst Street with Lake Shore Boulevard West and Fleet Street.)

According to a TTC staff report (.pdf) to the Toronto Transit Commission (the TTC Board), crews are repairing the rails at the intersection of Bathurst with Richmond Street West. The TTC also says that “track crews will be conducting multiple essential rail and concrete repairs [on] the streetcar allowance on Bathurst Street from Queen Street West to King Street West.”

Starting 11 p.m. Sunday, April 13, the work zone also blocks part of the intersection with King Street West.

The transit agency then detours streetcars along these routes:

  • 304 King overnight; and
  • 504 King.

Shuttle buses replace route 304 / 504 cars between Shaw Street and Spadina Avenue.

Streetcar-infrastructure work on Bathurst and the resulting TTC detours continue until April 14 (4 a.m.)

The TTC explains that “these essential repairs are part of TTC’s preventative maintenance program to ensure safe and reliable streetcar operations. Crews will work at multiple locations simultaneously to ensure completion. Around-the-clock work is required to ensure the quality installation of new rail and concrete.”

Crews start working by 7 a.m. Friday, April 11. They break and remove concrete daily from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m.

Work activities include:

  • saw-cutting concrete;
  • breaking and removing concrete;
  • replacing the old rail with new rail; and
  • placing new concrete.

TTC crews work in the streetcar allowance (centre lane) on Bathurst Street. The work zone reduces traffic c on Bathurst Street to one lane in each direction through the local work zones. To maintain traffic in the curb lanes and to create safe the City of Toronto may temporarily restrict street parking and bike lanes nearby. Work zones may restrict left turns.
