Hamilton LRT - Ottawa: Construction affects HSR service, starting August 17

Hamilton LRT header.png

Metrolinx is building the Hamilton LRT — a 14-kilometre light rail transit line through central Hamilton.

Since Tuesday, July 7, City of Hamilton contractors have been working

  • at the intersection of Main Street East with Ottawa Street

near the site of the future Ottawa LRT station. During this early phase of construction, crews are getting ready for the major construction during the next phase of the project — setting up traffic control and isolating water mains under side streets and Ottawa Street.

Starting Monday, August 17, the City is closing the intersection to all traffic By fully closing the intersection, the City allows crews to safely install water mains and sewers, relocate utilities and reuild the roadway. This work will renew critical municipal infrastructure, improve the long-term reliability of local roads and help prepare the corridor for future LRT construction.

The Hamilton Street Railway is detouring buses along these routes, while the intersection is closed:

  • 1 King;
  • 10 B-Line express; and
  • 41 Mohawk.
