Metrolinx continues upgrading the 31 Kitchener line as part of the GO Expansion Program.
As part of the GO Expansion program, Metrolinx is getting ready to build the future Stockyards Station (formerly St. Clair - Old Weston Station). Crews are demolishing parts of the bridge carrying GO Transit and UP Express trains over
- St. Clair Avenue West between Weston Road / Keele Street and Old Weston Road.

Crews are cutting concrete, excavating and using machinery to remove parts of the bridge structure.
To support the Metrolinx construction, the TTC is removing the overhead streetcar infrastructure on St. Clair Avenue West between Weston Road / Keele Street and Old Weston Road until Friday, September 11. TTC crews then return to re-install the overhead infrastructure as early as Tuesday, September 22, 2026, after Metrolinx finishes demolishing part of the bridge.
The TTC is detouring streetcars along these routes, while crews work on the bridge:
Shuttle buses replace 512 St Clair service west of Lansdowne Avenue. The TTC is also extending the path for buses along the 340 Junction overnight route to replace 312 St Clair overnight service west of Lansdowne.
Construction on the St. Clair Avenue West bridge and the resulting TTC service changes continue until “mid-October,” meaning as late as until October 17.
TTC crews use overhead trucks with hydraulic equipment to complete this project. You may hear beeping sounds when the trucks are backing up and notice equipment lights.
The crews work from Sunday, September 6 until Friday, September 11 and from Tuesday, September 22 until “mid-October”. They work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but plan to conduct noisy activities during the daytime.
TTC crews work only in the streetcar right-of-way (centre lanes) on St. Clair West. Traffic continues to flow in the curb lanes.
Expect further TTC detours when the City of Toronto closes part of St. Clair West to traffic during three phases:
- Phase 1 — from 8 p.m. Friday, September 11 until 8 a.m. Saturday, September 12 and continuing overnight nightly until 8 a.m. Monday, September 14
- Crews are cutting concrete above westbound vehicle and TTC lanes.
- During this work, all westbound traffic detours along Old Weston Road, Junction Road and Keele Street.
- The work zone blocks the sidewalk on the north side of St. Clair Avenue West between Old Weston and Weston roads.
- Phase 2 — from 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 15 until 8 a.m. Wednesday, September 16 and continuing overnight nightly until 8 a.m. Friday, September 18.
- Crews are cutting concrete above eastbound vehicle and TTC lanes.
- During this work, all eastbound traffic detours along Old Weston Road, Junction Road and Keele Street.
- The work zone blocks the sidewalk on the south side of St. Clair Avenue West between Keele Street and Old Weston Road.
- Phase 3 — from 8 p.m. Saturday, September 19 until 11 a.m. Sunday, September 20.
- Crews are partially demolishing and removing the bridge structure above the entire roadway and TTC lanes.
- During this work, all traffic detours in both directions.
- The work zone blocks both sidewalks.
Metrolinx and GO plan to accommodate more passengers and increase service along the Kitchener line, as part of their GO Expansion Program (formerly “regional express rail”).
