TTC Bus Routes That Were Never Numbered Under the Current Scheme

In the autumn of 1956, the TTC began again to assign numbers to its collection of bus routes operating throughout Metropolitan Toronto. This system, which attempted to keep the routes in alphabetical order, but assigning even numbers to east-west routes and odd numbers to north-south routes, has since been supplanted by other numbering schemes which have muddied the waters on how bus routes are numbered. That list leaves aside a number of bus services that were never numbered under the TTC's post-1956 schemes. Some routes were simply abandoned or replaced before the change could take place. Others were special trial services that the TTC felt did not merit a number. We have included this list below.

It's important to note that as many as twelve bus routes introduced by the TTC in the 1920s did receive numbers, but that these numbers did not carry through into the 1930s and quickly vanished from rollsigns. Where possible, we've tried to include these earlier route numbers in the notes.
