Since 1949, service on Spadina Road between Bloor and Dupont Streets was provided by an extension of the SPADINA bus. In 1973, service was extended north to Davenport Road. When the BLOOR-DANFORTH SUBWAY opened in 1966, the route did not operate through Spadina station. Transfers were required to switch from subway to bus and vice versa. The current bus terminal was opened in 1978, and built as part of the SPADINA SUBWAY. When the subway opened, the TTC decided it made more sense for the 77 SPADINA bus to have a direct connection to the subway, and to split off the bus route on Spadina Road north of Bloor into a separate route, so that service levels north of Bloor could be better tailored to lower passenger demand. Thus, on January 28, 1978, the 103 SPADINA NORTH route was born.

January 28, 1978

Coincident with the opening of the SPADINA SUBWAY, service begins on 103 SPADINA NORTH replacing the northern section of the 77 SPADINA bus. Buses run north from the newly-opened Spadina station bus loop, up Spadina Road, to loop at the base of Casa Loma via west on Davenport, south on Kendal and east on MacPherson back to Spadina.

A round trip on this route took only twelve minutes, making this the shortest route in the TTC network at the time.

7 days a week, 18 hours a day

September 5, 1982

Due to low passenger volumes, standard 40 foot diesel buses are replaced by 30 foot long Orion Is.

April 14, 1984

As part of a general realignment of routes along Davenport Road, service on 103 SPADINA NORTH ends on this day, replaced by the new 127 DAVENPORT, which started service the next day.
