Coincident with the opening of the SPADINA SUBWAY, service begins on a new route connecting York University with Wilson station. Buses run from Wilson station (Upper Bus Terminal) via west on Wilson, north on Keele, west on Grandravine, north on Sentinel, and loop clockwise around the university campus via Fraser Drive including a stop at the Ross Humanities Building at the centre of campus. The name of the ring road around the university has been changed from Fraser, and is now known as The Pond Road on the south and west side, and known as Ian MacDonald Blvd on the north and east side of campus. The route operates out of Wilson Garage.

Service begins on a new express branch between Wilson station and the Ross Humanities Building at York University. There are no intermediate stops. Buses operate northbound from Wilson station via north on Wilson Heights, west on Sheppard, north on Chesswood, west on Finch, north on Keele and west on St. Lawrence (now known as York Blvd.) to the Ross Building. Southbound buses operate via east on St. Lawrence, south on Keele, east south and east on St. Regis, south on Tuscan, east on Sheppard and south on Wilson Heights. Since there are no intermediate stops, some drivers do not follow the above routing exactly. This service does not operate during the summer (mid-April to the Friday following Labour Day) or during the Christmas school recess. At an unknown year service resumed after the summer break on the Tuesday immediately after Labour Day.

Express buses are rerouted both ways between Sheppard and Wilson station via Allen Road and Transit Road.
September 6, 1983
Express service is revised to provide local service between Finch and Keele and York University. From 7 AM until noon (note earlier start time), buses run “local” from the Ross Building south and west on Fraser, south on Sentinel and east on Finch to Keele, then “express” east on Finch, south on Allen Road and south on Transit Road to Wilson station. Buses return northbound north on Transit Road, north on Allen Road, west on Finch, north on Keele and west on St. Lawrence. From 12 noon to 5.30 PM buses run express on the southbound trip and local / express on the northbound trip, using the reverse of the above described routings. It is not clear if the routing via Finch and Allen Road, and the additional earlier and later trips also started at this time it could have started early. Express service will now operates through the Christmas recess at the university.
January 1, 1984
Service on the main branch is rerouted from Wilson station to operate around the north side of the Downsview Airport rather than via Wilson. Trips now begin at the new North Terminal of Wilson station and operate north on Transit Road, north on Allen Road, west on Sheppard and north on Sentinel to the university. Buses on the new 119 GRANDRAVINE and 120 CALVINGTON routes provide service on some of the streets no longer served by 106 YORK UNIVERSITY buses. No changes to destination signs.

Summer 1991
This is the first summer that the express service operates.
January 3, 1993
Upon closing of the Davenport garage, operation of the route is now split between Arrow Road and Wilson garages. The split as of this date is likely, local service at Arrow Road and express at Wilson, based on the February 1994 entry.
February 13, 1994
Operation of all runs on this route are consolidated at Arrow Road Garage, as the Express runs are transferred out of Wilson Garage. This allows express runs to be operated by high capacity articulated buses.
February 18, 1996
Due to the elimination of the 118 FINCH VIA ALLEN route a new stop is added both ways at Finch and Dufferin.
March 31, 1996
With the opening of the new Downsview Station (at Allen Road and Sheppard) on the Spadina line, all buses run into the new Station instead of proceeding south on Allen to Wilson station. Early morning trips (before 6 a.m. Monday through Saturday and before 9 a.m. on Sunday) are extended to Wilson and Transit via Allen Road and Transit Road. At some point before February 2001, these extended trips are designated as route 106A.
Effective on this date, the express branch is redesignated from 106A to 106E.
