108 Downsview (1978-2017)

Compiled by Jeffrey Kay

January 28, 1978

Coincident with the SPADINA SUBWAY, service begins on a new route introduced to replace the “Driftwood” branch of the 35 JANE bus and connect the Driftwood neighbourhood to Wilson station. Buses operate from the Lower Bus Terminal of Wilson station via north on Wilson Heights, west on Sheppard, north on Tuscan, west on St. Regis, south on Keele, west on Grandravine and north on Driftwood, looping west on Strong Gate, north on Jane and east south and west on Driftwood. Buses return over the reverse routing. Initially this service operates during the Monday through Friday daytime hours. The route is operated out of Wilson Garage.

January 3, 1984

The service is rerouted to provide a new service on Arleta. Buses run from the newly opened North Terminal at Wilson station via north on Transit Road, north on Allen Road west on Sheppard, north on Arleta, and north on Driftwood to the existing loop via Strong Gate and Jane. Service on St. Regis and Grandravine replaced by the new 119 GRANDRAVINE route.

January 3, 1993

Coincident with the closure of Davenport Garage, operation of this route is transferred from Wilson Garage to Arrow Road Garage.

February 18, 1996

As part of a series of system-wide service cuts resulting from the elimination of provincial transportation subsidies, Saturday late-evening service is eliminated. To partially compensate for the elimination of the 119 GRANDRAVINE route, alternate buses are routed via Grandravine and St. Regis during rush hours. During the morning rush hours, every second eastbound bus leaving Jane and Driftwood operates via Grandravine, Keele, St. Regis and Tucson Gate before rejoining the main branch at Sheppard. During the afternoon rush hours, every second westbound bus reverses this routing.
