February 5, 1984

Route established to replace portions of the East Mall branch of the discontinued 87 MALL CIRCLE route, and provide a new service into the Shorncliffe/North Queen industrial area. Buses run from Kipling Station via north on Auckland, west on Dundas, south on Shorncliffe, west on North Queen, south on The East Mall, west on Queensway and south on West Mall to Sherway Gardens.

May 19, 1985

Route rerouted south of the Queensway via East Mall and Evans to and from Sherway.

February 6, 1989

A new one way rush hour branch established to provide a new service on North Queen west of East Mall. Buses operate from Kipling Station in the morning rush hour via Dundas, Shorncliffe, North Queen, Queensway and West Mall. During the afternoon rush hour buses run to Kipling Station over the reverse routing.

February 13, 1994

Route extended south of Sherway by running east on Evans and south on Browns Line to Long Branch loop, replacing a portion of the 80 QUEENSWAY route.

November 23, 1998

Buses running to and from Long Branch loop now serve the newly constructed streetcar islands in the middle of Lake Shore Blvd. rather than stops at the curb.

September 5, 2004

Alternate buses start operating both ways via North Queen and Queensway (the 123C branch) during Monday to Friday midday and early evening hours and during Saturday, Sunday and Holiday daytime hours. This new service alternate with buses running via North Queen, East Mall and Evans to and from Sherway Gardens. The branch names were also changed to better describe the routing.

January 2, 2005

Accessible service introduced on this route, using New Flyer Low-Floor buses recently transferred to Queensway Garage. All buses at all times of the week made accessible.

September 5, 2006

As of this date, service operates every 8-9 minutes from Kipling station during rush hours, with every second bus operating to Long Branch via East Mall (123) or Sherway via North Queen (123A). Service during the midday every 12 minutes, all to Long Branch, but with every second bus operating via East Mall instead of North Queen (123C). Evening service is as the midday service until 10 p.m. when all buses operate to Long Branch via East Mall at 22 minute intervals. Service on the 123B branch discontinued.

Saturday service operates at twelve minute intervals between Kipling and Long Branch, with every second vehicle until 6 p.m. operating via North Queen instead of East Mall. Sunday service operates at 15 minute intervals, with North Queen service continuing only to 6 p.m.

May 11, 2008

Sunday, holiday and Saturday afternoon service is no longer interlined with 111 EAST MALL. Interlining continues on Saturday mornings.

November 23, 2008

As part of the TTC’s Ridership Growth Strategy, two-way service is installed on North Queen, 7 days a week, whenever the subway is running. During rush hours, buses on North Queen operate as a short-turn branch from Kipling station to Sherway Gardens, while every other bus operates the regular Long Branch-to-Kipling route via East Mall. During midday and evenings on weekdays, and all day on weekends and holidays, every second bus to Long Branch and back travels via North Queen or via the East Mall.

May 8, 2011

As part of a system-wide reallocation of resources resulting from municipal budget cuts, midday service on the 123C branch (Long Branch via North Queen) is replaced by buses operating on the 123A branch from Kipling to Sherway only.

June 22, 2014

As part of a system-wide reorganization of route branch designations, buses operating on the 123 “main” branch of Kipling station to Long Branch via East Mall are designated 123B.

August 31, 2014

On this day, the short turn service that operated to Sherway Gardens via North Queen (123A) is switched to operate via East Mall instead; this branch is designated 123D. During weekday rush hours and midday, buses operating on North Queen now run to Long Branch. This change allows the TTC to extend service to North Queen from 7 a.m. on weekday mornings to 6 a.m.

September 6, 2014

Service is no longer interlined with 111 EAST MALL on Saturday mornings.

Saturday, September 1, 2018

Last day of service. Service is renamed the following day as 123 SHERWAY, “to more accurately reflect the character of the bus route”. The following Tuesday, an additional branch starts service, providing service between Kipling station and Sherway Gardens via the West Mall, effectively replicating the 124 SHERWAY route.
