Service begins on a new route on Christie Street, replacing a portion of the 18 CALEDONIA bus. Buses operate from St. Clair West station on the SPADINA SUBWAY, leaving via the westbound streetcar exit, via west on St. Clair and south on Christie to Bloor, looping via Grace, Bloor and Christie, to stop in front of Christie station on the BLOOR-DANFORTH SUBWAY, returning via the reverse route. Service operates seven days a week, 18 hours a day, with ten minute rush hour service and twenty minute service at other times. Buses operated out of Davenport Garage.

Track reconstruction inside St. Clair West station temporarily closes the underground terminal to transit vehicles. As a result of this, 126 CHRISTIE buses are forced to loop on-street, picking up passengers at the north side entrance to the station. In addition to this, late evening (after 10 p.m.) service on 126 CHRISTIE is extended east on St. Clair to St. Clair station on the YONGE SUBWAY. This arrangement was in place until the underground terminal reopened later that year.

February 18, 1996

As part of a system-wide cut in service resulting from the elimination of provincial subsidies for public transportation, service is cut after 7 p.m. on Sundays. Also on this day, with the closing of Lansdowne Garage, operations were transferred from Eglinton Garage to Wilson Garage.

May 12, 2002

Early morning trips (5:15 and 5:30 a.m.) eliminated Monday through Saturday.

October 16, 2005 to November 18, 2005

Due to track reconstruction on the ST CLAIR streetcar, service is adjusted to improve reliability and reduce crowds. During rush hours, service is changed from every 15 minutes to every 16 minutes. During weekday middays, service frequencies are changed from every 30 minutes to every 24 minutes. Also, during the early and late evenings, Monday to Friday and all day on Saturday and Sunday, buses are extended from St. Clair West station to St. Clair station.

November 23, 2008

As part of the TTC’s Ridership Growth Strategy, Sunday evening and late-evening service restored. Buses now operate at every 30 minutes or better, whenever the subway is open. Also on this day, service is transferred from Wilson Garage to the newly-opened Mount Dennis Garage.

August 2, 2009
