July 1, 1954

Service begins on a new route replacing a portion of the DAVISVILLE bus. CHAPLIN buses operate from Davisville station on the YONGE SUBWAY via west and northwest on Chaplin, west on Eglinton, Mayvair and Vesta and north on Bathurst to an off-street loop (Lawrence Plaza loop) at the southwest corner of Lawrence Avenue and Bathurst. Buses operate seven days a week.

July 10, 1954

Service rerouted to travel north and west on Chaplin (passing Eglinton) and west on Roselawn and north on Bathurst instead of via Mayfair and Vesta.

February 20, 1955

Sunday and holiday service discontinued, partially replaced by the “Melrose” branch of the BATHURST bus.

June 29, 1955

Buses leave the off-street loop at the southwest corner of Lawrence and Bathurst and loop on-street via north on Bathurst, west on Covington, south on Brucewood and west on Lawrence.

Summer 1956

Sign not used

Note that the 14A rollsign was never used in service. It may have been set up for a proposed branch along Glencairn Avenue from Bathurst to Dufferin, only to have that service offered by a branch of the 7 BATHURST bus.

August 2, 1960

Service extended to the Lawrence Heights neighbourhood during the midday, on a trial basis. From Davisville station, buses operate via the regular route to Lawrence Plaza and then via west on Lawrence and north on Varna to loop via west on Flemington, south on the Spadina Roadway, east on Ranee and east and south on Varna to Lawrence, returning to Davisville station via the regular route. Buses operate every 15 minutes from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Also on this date, a new 14B “Briar Hill” short turn service is added, operating during the morning rush hours and weekday evenings. Buses loop via north on Bathurst and east on Briar Hill to Chaplin Crescent, returning to Davisville station via Chaplin.

Note that not much is known about the 14B branch. Notes from the TTC state that the intent was to inaugurate a short-turn service focusing on Chaplin Crescent, but no schedules have been found showing running times or service periods. Only the March and May 1964 maps show this short turn.

December 28,1962

The loop at Bathurst and Lawrence is now reversed with buses looping via north on Bathurst, west on Coventry, south on Brucewood and east on Lawrence to Bathurst to route. (Source: Toronto Daily Star)

November 2, 1964

To better service the Lawrence Heights neighbourhood, buses now run via Flemington Road. Buses are extended west of the Bathurst/Lawrence intersection, operating via west on Lawrence, north on Varna, west on Ranee, south and east on Flemington Road and south on Varna, returning east on Lawrence. (Note: this service was often short-turned south of Ranee Avenue at Varna and Cather Crescent due to various construction projects connected with the building of the Spadina Expressway). Buses on this branch operate from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the 14C destination sign remaining unchanged.

Tuesday, September 7, 1965

14C “Ranee” service to Lawrence Heights increased to 12 hours a day, Mondays through Saturdays.

May 11, 1968

Buses on the 14A “CHAPLIN VIA GLENCAIRN” branch operate from Davisville station via northwest on Chaplin, west on Roselawn, north on Bathurst and west on Glencairn, looping clockwise via south on Lansdowne, west on Tycos Drive, north on Caledonia to Glencairn, returning via the reverse route.
