Service begins on route 142 DOWNTOWN EXPRESS VIA AVENUE ROAD, a premium express service running local from Bombay and Avenue Road (just north of Highway 401) south on Avenue Road to Eglinton, and then express via Avenue Road, Oxton, Oriole Parkway, Lonsdale Avenue, Avenue Road, Queen’s Park and University Avenue, looping via Richmond, Simcoe, Adelaide, Church and Richmond. Express stops at Lonsdale, St. Clair, Bloor, Museum station, Queen’s Park station, St. Patrick station and Osgoode station.

Service operates in place of the rush hour service of the 1 ARMOUR HEIGHTS route.

January 2, 2005

Service reduced from every 22 minutes 30 seconds to every 30 minutes during the afternoon peak period and from every 20 minutes to every 30 minutes during the morning peak period. Morning southbound trips depart from Highway 401 at 6:30, 7:00, 7:30, 8:00, and 8:30 a.m. while afternoon northbound trips depart from Church and Richmond at 4:00, 4:30, 5:00, 5:30, 6:00, and 6:30 p.m.

Buses on this route, in both directions, will now serve stops on Queen’s Park at Wellesley Street (southbound buses stop at Hoskin), connecting with the 94 WELLESLEY route.

August 5, 2013

Looping at the south end revised, southbound buses proceed from University and Richmond via west on Richmond, south on Peter, east on Adelaide, north on Jarvis and west on Richmond to University. No change to service levels.

December 20, 2013

Last day of service via Peter Street. The following Monday, service is restored to the old loop of west on Richmond, south on Simcoe and east on Adelaide. Ridership on the portion of the route west of Simcoe was lower than expected, and the longer route was inconveniencing riders on board.

November 25, 2019

Service on this route is changed to operate on the King Street Transit Priority Corridor in a trial basis. Buses on the route operate southbound from Bombay Loop via south on Avenue Road, southeast on Oxton Avenue, south on Oriole Parkway, west on Lonsdale Road, south on Avenue Road, south on Queen’s Park, south on Queen’s Park Crescent West, south on University Avenue, east on King Street, south on Sherbourne Street, east on Front Street East, north on Berkeley Street to King Street. Northbound buses reverse the route.

Tuesday, March 23, 2020

As with other express services on the TTC, all service on this route is suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. Buses on this route are reallocated to local routes until further notice.
