149 Etobicoke-Bloor

Compiled by James Bow

Due to the TTC not being able to make the subway fully wheelchair accessible by January 2025, as required by the Ontarians With Disabilities Act, the TTC revises service on 97 YONGE and 13 AVENUE ROAD to connect the areas around inaccesible stations to an accessible station with bus service. In the case of LINE 2, the BLOOR-DANFORTH SUBWAY, to cover the areas around the inaccessible Islington, Old Mill and High Park stations, the TTC launches the temporary 149 ETOBICOKE-BLOOR route between Kipling Station and High Park station. This will run until these stations are made wheelchair accessible.

This service marks a temporary restoration of bus service on Bloor Street West parallel to the BLOOR-DANFORTH SUBWAY west from Jane Station, as seen by 3 KINGSWAY and 49 BLOOR WEST.

January 5, 2025

Service begins on the 149 ETOBICOKE-BLOOR route, operating from Kipling station via west on St. Albans Road, north on Kipling Avenue, east on Dundas Street West and east on Bloor Street West to High Park Avenue before turning onto High Park Avenue and into High Park station. Buses return via the reverse route, entering Kipling Station via south on Kipling, west on Viking Lane, south on West Service Road and west on St. Albans Road to Kipling Station. Buses operate at intervals of 25-30 minutes seven days a week whenever the subway is open.

Based from the Queensway division, this route uses 12 meter, 40 foot Orion VII and Nova LFS low floor accessible buses at all times.

After the installation of the elevators at High Park Station was completed in March 2025, service on the 149 ETOBICOKE-BLOOR route is cut back to operate between Kipling Station and Jane Station. Maps issued after the opening of LINE 6 FINCH WEST LRT as of December 2025 depicts that routing as Old Mill and Islington Stations have yet to install elevators.
