Curran Hall is a community that is part of the Woburn neighbourhood. Since the area developed in the 1950s, Curran Hall has been mostly surrounded by over 200 suburban detached homes. One of the streets in Curran Hall, Orton Park Road, was named by members of the Lea family who owned the farm at the north end of the street, close to Ellesmere where the Curran Hall Community Centre stands today. Evelyn J. Lea and his wife Constance Nicholson acquired the property and lived on the farm for many years. The lovely valley behind the farm house reminded them of the Nicholson estate near Carlisle, Cumberland, England which was named “Orton Park.”

The origins of the 154 CURRAN HALL can be traced to September 8, 1958 when transit service in the Curran Hall began as the 15B BRIMLEY buses operated peak period service in the area. This was replaced by the new 54 LAWRENCE EAST bus route on September 1, 1963. For over 61 years, with minor changes, the routing remained unchanged until the TTC did the Scarborough East Area Study when it was proposed that the Orton Park bus service that was serviced by the 54B to be replaced by a new route, 154 CURRAN HALL, operating from Kennedy Station, although a proposed alternate route via Eglinton and Scarborough Golf Club Road was rejected due to several hills on Scarborough Golf Club can cause a safety hazard.

September 1, 2024

As part of the 2024 Annual Service Plan, service begins on a new route into the Curran Hall neighbourhood of Scarborough, revising and building on service on 54 LAWRENCE EAST on Scarborough Golf Club Road, Brimorton Drive and Orton Park.

Buses operate at intervals of 22-25 minutes whenever the subway is open, operating eastbound from Kennedy Station (platform A) via north on Transway Cres, east on South Service Rd, north then west on North Service Rd to Eglinton Ave E, west on Eglinton Ave E, north on Kennedy Rd (via the Line 3 Busway), east on Lawrence Ave E, north on Scarborough Golf Club Rd, east on Brimorton Rd, north on Orton Park Rd, east on Ellesmere Rd, south on Military Trail, and west into University of Toronto Scarborough’s Campus Bus Loop.

Buses return via the reverse route to Lawrence Avenue East and Midland Avenue before turning south on Midland Avenue (via the Line 3 Busway) and west on Eglinton Avenue West before entering Kennedy station via north and east on North Service Road.

Service operates from Eglinton (Comstock) Garage where the previous 54B LAWRENCE EAST buses operated using Nova LFS and BYD K9M low floor buses.

Service revised. Local stops on Kennedy (northbound) and Midland (southbound) were removed and stops on the 154 CURRAN HALL buses were standardized so that all Lawrence corridor services use the same stops in the SCARBOROUGH RT replacement corridor. Hours of service on 154 CURRAN HALL corrected to align with the former 54B LAWRENCE EAST service to Orton Park which it replaced.
