Service begins on a new route between Lawrence station and the Donway area near the Lawrence/Don Mills intersection, replacing a portion of the 101 DONWAY-YORK MILLS bus. Buses operate from Lawrence station using the old 101 routing via east on Lawrence, north on Bayview, east on Post Road, southeast on Park Lane Circle, south on Glenorchy, east on Suncrest, north on the Bridal Path, and east on Lawrence, looping clockwise via the Donway West, the Donway East, and back to the Donway West before ending to Lawrence, returning via reverse route.

Buses operate from Eglinton Garage, Monday to Friday only, from 6:45 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.

This change occurs in conjunction with a realignment of services on 11 BAYVIEW and 28 DAVISVILLE, bolstering service on Lawrence Avenue alongside the 124 SUNNYBROOK route.

This provides new service on the southwestern quadrant of Don Mills and Lawrence residential area that resulted the removal of service from The Donway West between Don Mills and Overland.

February 18, 1996

As part of a systemwide cut in service resulting from the elimination of provincial transit subsidies, rush hour and midday service on this route is cut to once an hour.

Also, on this date, with the closing of Lansdowne Garage, operation of this route is transferred from Eglinton Garage to Wilson Garage.

September 3, 2002

As a result of low ridership, the last westbound trip, departing the Donway at 6:45 p.m., is discontinued. Operation of this route is transferred from Wilson Garage to the new Eglinton Garage on Comstock.

July 31, 2005

As part of a general reallocation of resources, all service after 7 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends and holidays eliminated.

September 6, 2015

Early evening weekday, daytime and evening Saturday and daytime Sunday and holiday service restored. Buses now operate every 30 minutes from roughly 7 a.m. (9 a.m. Sundays) until 10 p.m. (7 p.m. Sundays).

June 23, 2019

The plan was to divert this route at the start of this board period. As a result of renovations at Lawrence station shutting down one of the roads in the bus terminal, buses on the 162 LAWRENCE-DONWAY route would no longer serve the bus terminal, transferring their passengers to the subway at on-street stops instead. To turn around, buses would continue west on Lawrence and north on Avenue Road to Old Orchard Grove and loop through Roe Loop before returning via the reverse route. However, at the start of this board period, the bus terminal at Lawrence station remained fully open, and the diversion did not launch.
