Service begins on a new route to replace the branches of the 96 WILSON bus that operate on Weston Road north of Albion Road, thus greatly simplifying the route branch structure of 96 WILSON and easing customer confusion. Buses operate from York Mills station on the YONGE SUBWAY line, via west on Wilson, through Wilson station on the SPADINA SUBWAY line, west on Wilson again, then northwest on Walsh and north on Weston Road. The main branch operates to Steeles Avenue, looping via west on Steeles, south on Barmac and east on Ormont, returning to York Mills station via the reverse routing. During rush hours, buses run east to Wilson station only.

Some peak period trips are extended north into the City of Vaughan, under contract with Vaughan Transit, operating north on Weston, east on Steeles, north on Weston and east on Langstaff to an off-street loop on the south side of Langstaff just east of Weston Road. During peak periods the “Langstaff” trips run east to Wilson station only. Southbound afternoon peak trips from Langstaff divert via the Steeles looping of west on Steeles, south on Barmac, east on Ormont before heading south again on Weston Road.

On Saturdays and Sundays buses run north on Weston Road to Finch Avenue only, looping west on Finch, south on Rumike, east on Lindy Lou, north on Jayzel and east on Finch.

The route operates out of Wilson Garage.

February 18, 1996

As part of system-wide service cuts resulting from the elimination of provincial operating subsidies, late evening service (after 10 p.m.) is eliminated on Sundays. March 21, 1999

The looping at Steeles Avenue is revised to reduce delays resulting from making the left turn from northbound Weston Road to westbound Steeles. “Steeles” trips, at all times, now use an expanded loop via north on Weston Road (beyond Steeles), then back south on the old alignment of Weston Road, west on Steeles, south on Barmac, east on Ormont and south on Weston Rd. No changes in destination signs.

October 18, 1999

The revised looping at Steeles introduced on March 21, 1999 is now only utilized during the afternoon peak period, Monday through Friday. During all other periods, buses on the “Steeles” branch make the left turn from Weston Road on to westbound Steeles. It is officially as of this date that the morning peak service no longer uses the expanded looping. It is not known when off-peak service was removed from the expanded loop, or whether off peak buses even began using the expanded loop in March.

April 30 to October 9, 2000

The weekend and holiday extension to Canada’s Wonderland operates over an extended period this year.

January 1, 2001

Financial responsibility for the portion of the route north of Steeles Avenue is transferred from the City of Vaughan to York Region, coincident with the launch of York Region Transit.

May 13 to October 7, 2001

The summer extension to Wonderland on Saturdays Sundays and Holidays under contract with York Region Transit is operated again this summer. This service is now an annual extension operating from mid-May to mid-October.

February 17, 2002

At the request of York Region Transit, all trips that previously ran north to Rutherford are extended north on Weston Road to a new off-street loop on the south side of Major Mackenzie just west of Weston Road.

In the peak periods the 165D service is replaced by an a new 165G service that extends service from Major Mackenzie and Weston Rd via east on Major Mackenzie to the car pool lot at the southwest corner of Major Mackenzie and Highway 400. The change was originally planned to operate in peak periods only, but was actually implemented on all 165D trips as the effective date arrived, effectively replacing the 165D branch.
