174 Ontario Place-Exhibition (2022)

Compiled by Jelo Gutierrez Cantos

May 8, 2022

As part of the 2022 Annual Service Plan, service on the new 174 ONTARIO PLACE-EXHIBITION shuttle is established following the restructuring of the former 121 FORT YORK-ESPLANADE bus route into the new 121 ESPLANADE-RIVER. Buses operate from Exhibition loop running east on Manitoba, south on Strachan, west on Lake Shore, looping south on Ontario Place Boulevard and west and north on Remembrance Drive before continuing east on Lake Shore where northbound buses reverse the route. This route connects with the 29 DUFFERIN, 509 HARBOURFRONT and 511 BATHURST services.

Service operated 7 days a week, 12 hours a day from mid-May to October. Buses operate out of Mount Dennis Garage with one bus using Orion VII hybrid and Proterra BE40 electric low floor buses instead of Birchmount Garage where the previous 121D FORT YORK-ESPALANDE buses did so.

To serve a stop at the intersection of Strachan Avenue and Fleet Street while avoiding streets that are often closed for special event, the route is revised so that southbound buses operate via the streetcar right-of-way leaving Exhibition Loop eastbound across Strachan Avenue into the eastbound curb lane of Fleet Street, then south on Fort York Boulevard and west on Lake Shore Boulevard West to the regular routing. Northbound buses are unchanged.

July 31, 2022

Due to multiple events at Exhibition Place and Ontario Place and weekend road closures along Lake Shore Boulevard, service on this route is suspended on weekends and holidays. This change was made at the divisional level on Sunday, June 19, 2022.

September 4, 2022

Service on the 174 ONTARIO PLACE-EXHIBITION ends after this date, although it was suspended on August 19 at the start of the CNE season. This route was not renumbered into the 200-series seasonal routes and was not scheduled for the 2023 season. References to the 174 route have been removed on the TTC’s service summary and its website, indicating the route is permanently discontinued. No replacement service to Ontario Place is planned.
