Summer 1999

With the opening of the new alignment of Eastern Avenue connecting with Queen a block east of the old alignment, buses now loop at Queen via south on Coxwell, east on Queen, south and west on the new alignment of Eastern, and north on Coxwell.
22A buses from Bingham Loop operate southwest on Kingston Road, cross Queen then south and west on Eastern, and north on Coxwell. 22A buses heading to Bingham continue to operate south on Coxwell, east on Queen and northeast on Kingston Road.
It is believed that the new section of Eastern Avenue was built in conjunction with streetcar track work on Queen in this area in the summer of 1999. The new routing is first shown on TTC maps issued in 2000. Confirmation of date of this routing change is requested.

Due to renovations to install elevators at Coxwell station, buses serving this station must temporarily vacate the bus terminal until the end of 2016. As a result, service on the 22 COXWELL route is interlined with the 70 O’CONNOR route at all times except for early Sunday mornings (when the 322 COXWELL NIGHT still operates). There is no change to destination signs. Buses simply change their signs as they cross Danforth Avenue. Buses also continue south and north along Coxwell Avenue, temporarily avoiding Strathmore Blvd.

May 7, 2017

With construction at Coxwell station at an end, the interlining between 22 COXWELL and 70 O’CONNOR ends, as these routes now enter Coxwell station’s bus terminal.

March 31, 2019

As a result of a city bridge rehabilitation project, northbound lanes on Coxwell Avenue between Upper Gerrard Street and Hanson Street are closed for approximately 18 weeks. While southbound services are unaffected, northbound buses are forced to divert via east on Upper Gerrard, north on Woodbine Avenue and west on Danforth Avenue to Coxwell.

Due to TTC track construction closing the intersection of Queen Street East and Kingston Road, buses on 22 COXWELL are forced to temporarily divert around construction. Buses on route 22A now loop clockwise through Queen/Coxwell loop. Buses on the 22B branch also loop clockwise through the loop, and then operate via north on Coxwell and east on Dundas, rejoining the route at Kingston Road. Returning buses follow the reverse route.

May 11, 2020

With the global COVID-19 pandemic affecting the TTC, service on the 22A COXWELL operates 7 days a week whenever the subway is open. This service replaces the suspended 503 KINGSTON ROAD streetcar shuttle service.

June 18, 2023

All service on this route is temporarily suspended due to reconstruction at Coxwell and Gerrard. Service on the 31 GREENWOOD which currently operates to/from Coxwell Station, is extended to Coxwell Ave. and Queen St.

July 30, 2023

With the major realignment of services in the Beaches area, service on the 22 COXWELL route resumes. As with the changes in the proposed 2023 TTC Annual Service Plan, branch 22A (Bingham Loop) is permanently discontinued with buses turning back on Queen/Eastern at all times instead of the Kingston/Queen loop. Coinciding with this changes, branch 22B (Queen) is redesignated as the 22.
