November 19, 1934

Service begins on the DAVISVILLE bus, replacing the north half of the ORIOLE bus. Service operates from a wye at Manor Road and Cleveland Street via south on Cleveland, west on Davisville, west on Chaplin, north on Oriole Parkway and west on Eglinton to Heddington. Buses operate every ten minutes throughout the day, every six minutes during rush hours.

November 27, 1934

Rush hour short turn service added operating between Cleveland and Yonge.

October 14, 1936

Service cut back at the wset end, now looping via Eglinton, Eastbourne and Anderson to Oriole Parkway.

April 12, 1937

West loop revised to run via west on Chaplin to Avenue Road, returning via north on Avenue Road, east on Eglinton and south on Oriole Parkway.

March 2, 1939

Rush hour short turn service now loops at Yonge Street via north on Yonge, west on Imperial, south on Duplex and east on Chaplin.

A DAVISVILLE bus transfer, effective April 19, 1947

July 3, 1939

Extended at the east end via north on Cleveland to Eglinton Avenue, looping via east on Eglinton, south on Hoyle and west on Soudan. There was no change to the destination sign, despite the new eastern terminus. The short turn service from Yonge continues to turn back at Manor Road.

March 27, 1954

Yonge short turn buses loop through the not-yet-opened Davisville station bus terminal.

March 30, 1954

Effective 1:30 p.m., buses serve Davisville station in both directions. Short turn buses now terminate at Davisville station.

July 1, 1954

Service west of Davisville station now provided by CHAPLIN buses. DAVISVILLE rerouted to operate from Davisville station to Sunnybrook Hospital, replacing the SUNNYBROOK route. Buses operate via east on Davisville and north on Bayview, looping through the Sunnybrook Hospital grounds and returning via the reverse route. During rush hours, a short turn service operates from Davisville station via east on Davisville to Bayview, looping via north on Bayview, west on Belsize and south on Cleveland.

There are also indications that the original short turn service, from Yonge (now Davisville station) via Davisville and Cleveland to Manor Road remains in operation. The Orders and Notice for this date mentions service “over regular short-turn route. DAVISVILLE - MANOR RD-SUBWAY”. Further, photographic evidence confirms the presence of a MANOR RD exposure on buses for this period, as seen below:

May 14, 1956

Assigned route number 28. West end looping changed to north on Yonge, west on Imperial, south on Duplex and east on Chaplin, due to the construction of the new TTC headquarters building overtop the Davisville station bus terminal.

December 15, 1957

Davisville station bus terminal re-opens. Temporary looping ends. Manor Road short turn service disappears at some point after this date.

April 28, 1969

Morning rush-hour service to Belsize now loops clockwise via Cleveland, Belsize and Bayview, while afternoon rush hour service loops counterclockwise via Bayview, Belsize and Cleveland.

October 15, 1973

As part of a general revision of service on Bayview Avenue, 28 DAVISVILLE is extended north from Sunnybrook Hospital via Bayview Avenue and west on Lawrence to Lawrence station, returning via Lawrence, Bayview, and Davisville to Davisville station, replacing a portion of the 52 LAWRENCE and 11 BAYVIEW buses. Buses loop in both directions through Sunnybrook. During rush hours, alternate vehicles are routed around the Lawrence/Bayview intersection via Dawlish and Mildenhall.

Although this service clearly takes advantage of the extension of the YONGE SUBWAY to York Mills, this change did not occur until six and a half months after the opening of Lawrence station. It’s possible the change may have been delayed because the stations opened incomplete, and it was some time before all escalators were installed.

September 6, 1988

Rush hour service via Mildenhall is reduced to one direction only. In the morning rush hour, alternate buses run from Davisville via Mildenhall to Lawrence station, returning via the normal route. In the afternoon, alternate buses run from Lawrence via Mildenhall to Davisville station, returning via the normal route. This change was made to increase service to York University’s Glendon Campus at Bayview and Lawrence.

July 21, 1991

Service on Bayview Avenue revised, with 11 BAYVIEW buses now operating from Davisville station via Davisville and Bayview to Steeles. 28 DAVISVILLE buses are cut back to the 28A branch, operating during rush hours only from Davisville station to Bayview, looping via Cleveland, Belsize and Bayview. Four buses provide a 4 minute, 30 second headway on Davisville Avenue. Branch redesignated 28 instead of 28A.

Service on Lawrence replaced by the 124 SUNNYBROOK route.

June 11, 2000

By this time, service has been rendered accessible.

June 7, 2008

Service begins on a summer-only, Saturdays only branch operating to the newly redeveloped Evergreen Brickworks site. Buses on the 28A branch operate from Davisville station via east on Davisville, south and southeast on Bayview into the Don Valley Brick Works Park, near Pottery Road. Service continues all Saturdays until Saturday, October 11.

Last day of Sunday and holiday service on the Brick Works branch. However, Saturday service is confirmed as operating year-round.

Sunday and Holiday service added to the 28A “Brick Works” branch as part of the summer seasonal service increase. Saturday service continues through the winter.

Seasonal Sunday and holiday service is re-established to the Brick Works.

June 21, 2014

Last day of operation under this route name. Effective June 22, weekday service between Davisville and Bayview is replaced with a branch of the 11 BAYVIEW, while weekend service to the Evergreen Brick Works is renamed 28 BAYVIEW SOUTH.
