312 St. Clair-Junction Night/312 St. Clair Blue Night

Compiled by James Bow

312 St. Clair Blue Night (first incarnation)

February 9, 1987

As part of an expansion and a rebranding of the TTC’s night transit services, service begins on the 312 ST. CLAIR BLUE NIGHT streetcar, operating from St. Clair station on the YONGE SUBWAY via west on St. Clair past Keele to Maybank Avenue (now known as Gunns Avenue), looping at Maybank Loop.

Service begins on an extended bus route operating under the 312 ST. CLAIR BLUE NIGHT monicker. Service operates from the streetcar platform level of St. Clair station via west on St. Clair to Jane and south on Jane to loop through Jane station on the BLOOR-DANFORTH SUBWAY line, and then via Armadale and Bloor back to Jane. The TTC installed this bus route when it decided that the same number of buses could operate the service to Jane at the same half-hourly frequencies as the old streetcar operation. The expansion thus provided new night service on St. Clair Avenue west of Gunns, and on Jane Street south of Dundas. Previously, night service on Jane was limited to between Dundas and Steeles, as provided by the 313 JANE BLUE NIGHT route.

Coincident with the revision of night service on Jane Street, and the launch of the 335 JANE NIGHT route, service is rerouted to serve Dundas Street from Jane Street to Bloor, to replace a portion of the old 313 JANE BLUE NIGHT route. Buses operate from St. Clair station via west on St. Clair, south on Jane and east and south on Dundas to Dundas West station, returning via north and west on Dundas, north on Jane and east on St. Clair to St. Clair station. Coincident with this change, service operation is changed from Arrow Road garage to Mount Dennis garage.
