Service begins on a new TTC route taking over a service from Hollinger Bus Lines, operating from Broadview and Danforth via north on Broadview, east on Mortimer and south on Coxwell to an off-street loop at the northeast corner of Coxwell and Danforth. At the south end, buses loop via south on Coxwell, east on Strathmore, south on a private roadway into Coxwell-Danforth loop (Hollinger loop), returning northbound via the private road to Strathmore, west on Strathmore and north on Coxwell to route. This was the only entrance/exit to this loop. The first loop 'stop' was for the OCONNOR bus; the MORTIMER bus went south and loaded/unloaded facing east along the fence. Neither bus ever reached Danforth.
Additional rush hour short turn service provided to Toronto East General Hospital at the corner of Coxwell and Mortimer. Service is operated from the former Hollinger Garage (the TTC's Woodbine Garage) until transferred to the newly opened Birchmount Garage in the spring in 1956.
Service operates to Danforth and Coxwell 18 hours a day Monday to Friday, but only to Toronto East General Hospital on weekends and holidays.

Last day of operation. At the request of East York council, service is combined with the 51 MAIN bus to form the new [62 MORTIMER-MAIN](/bus/routes/62-mortimer-mai.shtml) route. 62 MORTIMER would be restored on May 11, 1968 when the BLOOR-DANFORTH SUBWAY is extended east to Warden station.
