62 Mortimer-Main (1961-1968)

At the request of East York council, service begins on the new 62 MORTIMER-MAIN route, combining the former 51 MAIN and 62 MORTIMER routes into a single, transfer-free journey from Broadview and Danforth via north on Broadview, east on Mortimer, east on Lumsden, south on Chisholm, east on Doncaster, south on Main past BLOOR streetcars at Danforth Avenue, continuing south on Main to Kingston Road and then running south on Southwood, east on Williamson, south on Wineva to Queen, looping via east on Queen, north on Hambly to Williamson, returning via the reverse route. Buses operate from Broadview between 6:00 a.m. to 1:37 a.m. on weekdays, 8:54 a.m. to 1:37 a.m. on Saturdays and 6:47 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. on Sundays. Buses operate from Queen between 5:52 a.m. and 1:37 a.m. on weekdays.

Additional rush hour service is provided on the 62A branch operating from Broadway to Coxwell, looping via north on Durant, east on Memorial Park and south on Coxwell to Mortimer, returning via west on Mortimer. Further rush hour service is provided on the 62B branch operating from Queen Street to Coxwell, looping at Coxwell via north on Durant, east on Memorial Park, south on Coxwell and east on Lumsden to route.

This route is operated out of Sherbourne Garage, entirely within the central fare zone.

To publicize the new route, the TTC ran special buses on Friday, May 19 at 10:30 a.m. in both directions, meeting on the west side of Mortimer and Coxwell in time for speeches. Special transfers were also issued.

Operations transferred to the newly opened Danforth bus garage.

May 10, 1968

Last day of operation. Coincident with the extension of the BLOOR-DANFORTH SUBWAY to Islington and Warden stations, the service is split at Main Street station, with the restored 62 MORTIMER operating between Broadview and Main Street stations and the new 64 MAIN operating on the Main Street portion of the route.
