March 30, 1974

Coincident with the extension of the YONGE SUBWAY to Finch Avenue, the former 84 SHEPPARD service is split with service east of Yonge is replaced by bulked up service on 85 SHEPPARD EAST. All buses operate from Sheppard station via west on Sheppard to Weston Road, looping via north on Weston Road, east on Bradstock and south on Rivalda. Alternate buses operate through CFB Downsview Mondays through Fridays until approximately 6 p.m.

Service also begins on a new branch operating from Sheppard station via west on Sheppard, looping via north on Wilmington, west on Overbrook and south on Wilson Heights.

Buses operated out of Eglinton Garage out of Eglinton station.

Rush hour service on Signet is re-established, seven months after the cancellation of the former 99 CLAYSON route. This new branch operates in place of the 99 ARROW ROAD route during peak periods.

Ahead of the extension of the SPADINA subway to York University and into Vaughan, Downsview station is officially renamed Sheppard West. Destination signs have been adjusted in the days leading up to this change, although for 84 SHEPPARD WEST, this only affects short turn runs.

December 17, 2017

Coincident with the extension of the SPADINA subway into Vaughan, service is altered to serve Pioneer Village station. Buses on the peak-hour 84D “via Oakdale” branch follows the old route via Sheppard West (through Sheppard West station), Oakdale and Norfinch to Steeles, and then operates east on Steeles Avenue West and south on Track and Field Drive to Pioneer Village station, returning via the reverse route. Service on the 84B branch is resdesignated 84A while the 84C branch to Steeles via Arrow Road remains unaffected.

Also on this date, with the cancellation of the 196 YORK UNIVERSITY ROCKET route, an express 84E branch is set up operating from Sheppard-Yonge station via west on Sheppard to Sheppard West station, returning via the reverse route. Intermediate stops take place at Brentwood Avenue, Bathurst Street (both sides) and Wilmington Avenue. Service operates during the daytime and early evenings on weekdays, and during the daytime hours on weekends and holidays.
