87 West Mall / 87 Mall Circle (1963-1984)

87 Mall Circle Route Map

September 3, 1963

Service begins on 87 WEST MALL, a new Monday through Friday route to serve the new residential area west of Highway 27. From a south loop of east on Bloor, south on Roydon, west on Dundas, and north on Municipal Drive, buses operate north on The West Mall, west on Burnhamthorpe, north on Renforth, east and north on Crendon, east on Ulverston, north and west on Wareside, north on Cambrian, north on The West Mall and west and north Wellesworth, looping via east on Wellesworth, south on Inverdon and west on Eringate. Saturday service starts soon thereafter, but we do not yet have confirmation as to when.

April 27, 1970

Due to the rebuilding of the Eringate exit from Hwy.27, buses now loop at the north end east on Wellesworth, south on Inverdon, west and south on Dimplefield, and west on Eringate. This looping was confirmed as permanent on October 22, 1970.

July 10, 1970

Due to the completion of a grade separation at the West Mall & Dundas, the south loop is now operated via east on Bloor, south on East Mall (formerly Roydon), west on Dundas, south and east on Domino and north on West Mall.

April 19, 1971

Buses now run on the new roadway of the West Mall between Burnhamthorpe, and Rathburn. Service is no longer provided on Renforth, Credon, Ulverston, Wareside and Cambrian.

November 23, 1972

Extended south of Bloor, south on West Mall, east on Sherway Gardens South Gate, south and east on the Ring Road, south on Sherway Gate, west on Evans and south on Brown’s Line to Long Branch loop replacing portions of the 3 KINGSWAY and 80 QUEENSWAY routes. Evening and Weekend looping at Eringate changed to operate east on Wellesworth south on Rangoon and west on Eringate. A new Sunday service is introduced on the route.

Buses also extended north of Eringate, Monday through Friday until 7 pm via east on Eringate, north on Rangoon, west on Wellesworth, north and west on Gentian, north and east on Renforth, north on Carlingview and east on Disco, looping south on Brockport, west on Belfield and north on Attwell.

November 24, 1973

Last day of service as 87 WEST MALL. Service south of Eglinton is replaced by the new 87 MALL CIRCLE route. Service north of Eglinton is now provided by an extension of the 32 EGLINTON WEST route.

November 25, 1973

Service begins on 87 MALL CIRCLE, replacing a portion of the former 87 WEST MALL route and providing new service on East Mall. Buses run from Long Branch loop, via Browns Line, Evans, through Sherway Gardens, via the old 87 WEST MALL route to Eringate, then via Eringate, Rangoon, Wellesworth, Gentian, Renforth, Eglinton, East Mall, and Evans to Sherway Gardens, returning via East Mall, Eglinton, West Mall, Sherway to Long Branch.

November 22, 1980

Coincident with the extension of the Bloor-Danforth subway to Kipling, service cut back at both ends to operate between Kipling station and Sherway only.

Buses run from Kipling Station north on Aukland and west on Dundas looping south on East Mall, west on Evans, through Sherway Gardens mall, and north on West Mall. Alternate buses loop in the reverse direction. Service north of Dundas is provided by the new 112 WEST MALL and 111 EAST MALL routes. Service south of Evans is replaced by the extended 80 QUEENSWAY route.

Monday through Friday rush hour and evening service on West Mall replaced by an extension of the 2 ANGLESEY route. 87 MALL CIRCLE via WEST MALL buses operate during evenings and weekends.

February 4, 1984

Last day of operation as 87 MALL CIRCLE. East Mall (87A) branch replaced by 123 SHORNCLIFFE and West Mall (87) branch replaced by 124 SHERWAY.
