Operations Overview

This route operates with 2 branches:

  • 905A Kennedy Station - Conlins Road via U of T Scarborough
  • 905B Kennedy Station - U of T Scarborough

Background

The origins of the 905 EGLINTON EAST EXPRESS bus route can be traced to March 14, 1988 when the 34E EGLINTON EAST EXPRESS began to operate between Kennedy station and Scarborough College during peak periods. This continued in September 1989 when service on Eglinton Avenue became its own route, the 116 MORNINGSIDE.

As ridership on the 116E loomed, the proposed 13 km Scarborough Malvern LRT line was part of the Transit City proposal announced by then-Mayor David Miller on March 16, 2007, was later cancelled in 2010 when the new mayor, Rob Ford took office. The project was resurrected in 2016 as the “Crosstown East” before renaming it to “Eglinton East LRT” in 2017 as part of the EGLINTON-CROSSTOWN LRT. The proposed LRT routing on Eglinton Avenue, Kingston Road and Morningside Avenue parallels to the 198 U of T SCARBOROUGH ROCKET, which replaced the 116E service in September 2014.

As the name stands, the route number is chosen as the route runs in parallel of the future Eglinton East LRT line, an eastern extension of EGLINTON-CROSSTOWN LRT and shares the name with its counterpart west of Kennedy station, 34 EGLINTON EAST route.

September 2, 2018

As part of the TTC’s rebranding and expansion of its Express Bus Network services, this route, 905 EGLINTON EAST EXPRESS, is renamed from the former 198 UOFT SCARBOROUGH ROCKET, operating on the same express routing between Kennedy station and University of Toronto Scarborough east of Eglinton Avenue East, northeast of Kingston Road, north of Morningside Avenue, east of Ellesmere Road, and southeast on Military Trail returning via reverse route.

In between Kingston Road and UTSC, buses stop only Midland, Brimley, McCowan, Bellamy, Markham, Kingston (at Eglinton), Guildwood GO Station, Galloway, Lawrence, Kingston (at Morningside), Ellesmere, and Military Trail. Service operates Monday to Friday during peak periods, midday, early evenings until 11:00 p.m and Saturdays and Sundays until 7:00 p.m.
