Coincident with the expansion of the Toronto Transit Commission’s mandate to provide public transit service throughout Metropolitan Toronto, the TTC acquires a number of suburban bus route from Hollinger Bus Lines, Danforth Bus Lines, Roselands Bus Lines and West York Coach Lines. On this day, service begins on the new WOODBINE route, acquired from Hollinger Bus lines. Buses operate from Strathmore Loop on the corner of Woodbine and Danforth via north on Woodbine, east on O’Connor and east on St. Clair to loop at Victoria Street through an off-street loop at the southwest corner of Victoria Park and St. Clair. A walking transfer is permitted with PHARMACY buses. Service operates 7 days a week, 18 hours a day. Buses leave Zone 1 and enter Zone 2 at the O’Connor/St. Clair intersection.

A new “shoppers” service is established to the East York Acres Senior Citizens’ residence on Haldon Avenue, located north of Cosburn Avenue and east of Cedarvale Park. Buses operate from a loop east on Milverton, south on Cedarvale, west on Sthmore, north on Woodbine, east on Cosburn, and north on Haldon, looping counterclockwise through the parking lot at the south end of the residence, then south on Haldon, west on Cosburn to Woodbine, then north on Woodbine and northeast on O’Connor Drive to loop via east on Gardens Crescent, south on Westview Boulevard and west on St. Clair to O’Connor and return (via East York Acres) to Woodbine loop at Danforth Avenue.

NOVEMBER 14, 1965
To provide early Sunday morning service to the East General Hospital, the first WOODBINE bus entering service leaves Birchmount Garage at 6:00 a.m., proceeds via Danforth Road and Danforth Avenue to Coxwell and then north to Strathmore. Leaving STrathmore at 6:15 a.m., the bus proceeds to Providence Villa via east on Strathmore Boulevard, north on Woodington Avenue, west on Wolverleigh Boulevard, north on Coxwell, east on Mortimer, north on Woodbine, north-east on O’Connor Dr and east on St Clair Avenue, returning via the above routing to Coxwell and Strathmore. A second trip follows this same route at 7:00 a.m. and then departs Providence Villa at 7:30 a.m. and following the regular 91 WOODBINE route to Woodbine and Strathmore on all subsequent trips.

Coincident with the opening of the BLOOR-DANFORTH SUBWAY, service is restructured to operate through the Woodbine station bus terminal at Strathmore Boulevard. The 91A branch operates from Woodbine station via north on Woodbine, northeast on O’Connor and east on St. Clair Avenue East to loop at Kingston Road via south on Brooklawn, west on Barkdene Hills and north on Brimley (91 buses continue to short turn at Providence Villa). 91B buses operate from Woodbine station and south on Woodbine to loop at Queen via west on Queen, north on Rainsford and east on Columbine to Woodbine and return. The 91C branch is a summer-only branch replacing the BEACHES SPECIAL, extending the 91B branch via west on Queen, south on Eastern, south on Coxwell and east on Lakeshore, through the Ashbridge Bay parking lot and north on Lakeshore and Woodbine to route (this operated during the 1966 and 1967 summer seasons only. Service to Parkview Hills was taken over by a branch of 70 O’CONNOR.
Although not mentioned, it’s likely the East York Acres shoppers service was also routed into Woodbine station on this date.

Coincident with the extension of the BLOOR-DANFORTH SUBWAY to Warden, service is restructured. All service south of Woodbine station is taken over by the new 92 WOODBINE SOUTH route. Also on this day, new branches are launched, with one running from Woodbine station to Lawrence and Victoria Park via north on Woodbine, northeast on O’Connor, northwest on Curity and north on Hollinger, Bermondsey, Sloan, Sweeney, Teak, Carnforth to Lawrence, looping via east on Lawrence, south on Victoria Park and west on Sweeney to Sloane, returning south on Sloane to route. This service operates 7 days a week, 18 hours a day.
A second branch offers rush hour service from Woodbine station via Woodbine and O’Connor to the Parkview Hills district, looping as it had before 1966. Both of these services are taken from 70 O’CONNOR. Service on St. Clair Avenue east of O’Connor is taken over by 70 O’CONNOR and buses operating east out of Warden station.

Service begins on a new rush-hour branch serving the Railside industrial area. Buses follow the 91C routing northbound to Lawrence and then divert via Railside before continuing to York Mills. Morning buses divert via Railside and return via Lawrence, while afternoon buses head northbound via Lawrence and return via Railside. Service operates every sixteen minutes.

No service to York Mills after 7 p.m on weekdays. Service frequency is reduced at all other times.
