The first route to bear the YORK MILLS name began operation in 1948 when a short route started service connecting the Hoggs Hollow neighbourhood with TTC YONGE streetcars at Glen Echo loop, while the NORTH YONGE bus was diverted via Yonge Boulevard. When, in 1949, the NORTH YONGE bus returned to Yonge Street, service on this YORK MILLS route ended.

Then, on January 24, 1955, service on York Mills Road began with the introduction of the BAYVIEW bus route, however service was restricted to just between Yonge and Bayview. As Toronto’s urban sprawl filled out the fields of the Borough of North York, demand increased for service on York Mills east of Bayview Avenue, before finally…

September 4, 1962

Service begins on the 95 YORK MILLS bus route. Buses run from Glen Echo loop on Yonge Street at the Toronto city limits via north on Yonge and east on York Mills to Victoria Park Avenue, looping via south on Victoria Park and northwest on Parkwood Village Drive to York Mills. Initially service is provided during the daytime hours Monday through Friday. The route was operated from Eglinton Garage, and is entirely within the TTC Zone 2.

Service is extended east of Victoria Park. Buses now run east on York Mills, southeast on Parkwood Village and east on Ellesmere to Birchmount, looping via south on Principal, east on Canadian and north on Birchmount. The extension replaces a short stretch of the 67 PHARMACY route.

Coincident with the southerly extension of the 11 BAYVIEW route to St. Clair Station, a new York Mills short turn service is inaugurated between Glen Echo Loop and Bayview during the evenings and on Sundays, these buses loop in the east end south on Fenn, east on York, and north on Bayview.

The “Bayview” short turn buses now loop in the east end east on York Mills then north and east on the service road behind the gas station, south on Bayview, returning west on York Mills.

September 5, 1965

A new branch is introduced to extend service east on Ellesmere to an off street loop just east of the intersection of Military Trail (west of Morningside), in the Churchill Heights area. This branch operates during the daytime Monday through Friday. Service is added on the Birchmount branch in the evenings Monday through Saturdays and all day Sundays and Holidays, but withdrawn during the midday period Monday through Friday. The Bayview short turn service is discontinued.

By this date the route is operating from Birchmount Garage. The exact date of the transfer from Eglinton is not known, but it likely occurred in 1966 or 1967 as the service to Morningside was increasing.

February 3, 1969

Service is extended further east on a new branch running via Military Trail, Kingston Road, the Franklin Ave. overpass and Lawson, looping south on Port Union, west on Col. Danforth Trail (later renamed Lawrence) and north on Centennial.

Operation of this route is transferred from Birchmount and Wilson garages to the new Malvern Garage. The operation of some runs from Wilson Garage began in the fall of 1980, or even earlier, and Wilson was most likely operating some or all of the peak period buses on the 95A-Victoria Park branch.

September 4, 1984

A new service is now provided on Ellesmere between Military Trail and a new loop just west of Watson St. (a few blocks east of Conlins Road). This service replaces some trips that used to loop at Scarborough College. A note in the Pocket Timetable issued on this date states “When road construction on Ellesmere is completed, this route will be extended east of Meadowvale to an off street loop in the cul de sac near Kingston Road and Ellesmere.” This extension was finally accomplished in late 1988.

Between June 26 and July 21 “95C Conlins trips were diverted to Scarborough College since the Conlins loop was no longer available for TTC use. Operation of this route is now split and is based at Birchmount and Wilson garages. It previously operated exclusively from Malvern Garage. This change resulted the closure of Davenport Garage which affected many routes throughout the city.

The weekday early evening service via Scarborough College redesignated from 95G to 95C. The Service Summary of this month is the first mention of this service as “95C”.

February 13, 1995

Service is extended beyond the Kingston Road & Ellesmere loop to serve the new Rylander neighbourhood on the northeast side of Highway 401. Alternate rush hour buses and all midday buses that previously turned back at the Kingston Road loop are extended via east on Kingston Road, north on Rylander, east on Durnford, southeast on Sheppard, south on Port Union and east on Lawrence to and from Rouge Hill GO Station. Express service is redesignated 95E.

Operation of some peak period buses is transferred from Malvern to Wilson garage. All off-peak buses continue to operate from Malvern Garage. This change has been coincident with the opening of Mount Dennis Garage, which altered the base of several bus routes within the system.

This route is now Accessible using Orion VII Low Floor buses. These buses are also equipped with Bike Racks.

A new stop is added both ways at Bayview on the 95E peak period express branch.

September 4, 2012

A new short-term parking lot and bus loop opened on the south campus of U-of-T Scarborough in the area formerly known as the “Inner Lots”. This loop replaces the looping arrangements in the old Arrival Court. The new loop is located near the Athletics Centre further east on Military Trail and features bus shelters (to be installed soon) and enhanced safety features. In addition with the old TTC connections, additional connections are provided at the loop with the DRT Pulse service, other Durham Region Transit routes and GO Transit.

September 1, 2013

Rush hour short turn service is extended east of Victoria Park to Ellesmere station on the SCARBOROUGH RT. 95A service looping via York Mills, Victoria Park and Parkwoods Village ends. The new 95C rush hour branch operates from York Mills station via east on York Mills, southeast on Parkwoods Village and east on Ellesmere Road, before turning counter-clockwise through the Ellesmere service road west of the Scarborough RT and the Uxbridge sub. After passing beneath the Ellesmere Road bridge and stopping in front of the Ellesmere Station entrance, buses continue along the west service road and turn westbound onto Ellesmere, returning over the reverse route.

In addition, 95E express service is revised to operate with a longer express portion. Express buses now stop at Bayview, Leslie, Don Mills, Valley Woods / Sandover, Victoria Park, Pharmacy, Warden, Birchmount, Kennedy, Midland, Brimley, McCowan, Bellamy and Markham Road, and then all stops to U of T Scarborough Loop.

To realign service to better match ridership, midday service is established on the 95C YORK MILLS to Ellesmere Station branch, operating at intervals of every twenty minutes. Combined with a reduction in service on the 95A main branch to Kingston Road to every twenty minutes, and new midday service on 995 YORK MILLS EXPRESS, local service west of Ellesmere station operates every ten minutes, while service to express stops between Ellesmere Station and Military Trail are reduced to an average of 8 to 9 minutes, and service east of Military Trail, and on local stops between Military Trail and Ellesmere station are reduced to every 20 minutes.

May 9, 2021

Due to construction taking place at York Mills Centre, the TTC bus terminal serving York Mills station is closed for a period of three months, starting on this day. 95 YORK MILLS buses are routed to a temporary terminal set up in the parking lot on the northwest corner of Wilson and Yonge. No change to scheduled departure times or destination signs.

October 10, 2021

As part of the Scarborough Southeast Study, service on the 95A branch is extended east via Ellesmere Loop, east towards Kingston Road, north on Sheppard, west on Dunford, south on Rylander, and west on Kingston Road just as it was before 1995 to 1997.
