September 4, 2018

As part of the TTC’s rebranding and expansion of its Express Bus Network services, service begins on the 954 LAWRENCE EAST EXPRESS, a new peak period only express route previously an branch of the 54E LAWRENCE EAST EXPRESS, operating on the same express routing between Lawrence East station and Starspray Boulevard Loop via Lawrence Avenue East.

Express buses stop eastbound at Midland Avenue, McCowan Road and Markham Road before making all local stops between Markham Road and Starspray loop. In reverse, westbound buses make local stops between Starspray loop and Markham Road before stopping only at McCowan Road, Rushley Drive, Midland Avenue and Lawrence East station.

Service continues to operates out of Eglinton Garage.

February 18, 2020

A stop westbound on Rushley Drive in the morning shifted westward to Brockley Drive to facilitate the new David and Mary Thomson Collegiate Institute building that was relocated to 125 Brockley Drive.

March 23, 2020

Due to the loss of ridership resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, service on this route is temporarily suspended, with resources diverted to maintaining service on the parallel local routes.

November 23, 2020

Service, cut back due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is restored to pre-COVID-19 levels.

October 10, 2023

After LINE 3 SCARBOROUGH closed earlier to the derailment over the summer, buses on the 954 LAWRENCE EAST EXPRESS are rerouted from its terminus at Lawrence East Station to Kennedy Station. Westbound buses on the route continue passing the Midland stop, looping into a service road underneath Lawrence before continuing eastbound on Lawrence turning southbound on Midland Avenue, westbound on Eglinton Avenue East, turning into North Service Road before arriving at Kennedy Station, stopping at Bay 8. From Kennedy Station, eastbound buses go westbound at North Service Road and Eglinton Avenue East, northbound on Kennedy Road before turning eastbound to Lawrence Avenue East heading to Starspray Loop. A stop is added at Kennedy and Lawrence.

November 20, 2023

The stop at Lawrence Avenue East at Midland Ave is removed. Westbound 954 buses now stop at the new bus platform on the southbound far side of Midland Avenue at Lawrence Avenue East.

September 3, 2024

Service is removed on some stops between Scarborough Golf Club Road and Kingston Road to improve travel times and take advantage of increased service on the 54 LAWRENCE EAST bus along this route. Express buses no longer serve stops at Mossbank Drive, Susan Street, Overture Road, 4121 Lawrence Avenue East (and opposite) and Rodda Blvd.

February 9, 2026

With opening of the LINE 5 EGLINTON LRT, service on the 954 LAWRENCE EAST is revised to operate from Don Valley Station. Buses operate both ways via Gervais, Wynford, Don Mills Road and Lawrence Avenue East to Starspray Loop. Express stops serve eastbound on Green Belt Drive, Lawrence Avenue East, Railside Drive, Victoria Park Avenue, Pharmacy Avenue, Warden Avenue, Birchmount Road, Kennedy Road, Midland Avenue, McCowan Road, Markham Road, Greencrest Circuit, Fortune Gate, Scarborough Golf Club Road, Orton Park Road, Galloway Road, and Kingston Road where local service continues to Starspray Loop. Westbound express buses make local trips before only stopping at Kingston Road, Galloway Road, Orton Park Road, Scarborough Golf Club Road, Fortune Gate, Greenholm Circuit, Markham Road, McCowan Road, Brockley Drive, Midland Avenue, Kennedy Road, Birchmount Road, Warden Avenue, Pharmacy Avenue, Victoria Park Avenue, Underhill Drive, Don Mills Road, Barber Greene Road, and Don Valley Station.

As a result of this change, express service is removed southbound on Midland Avenue to Kennedy Station and northbound on Kennedy Road. Passengers wishing to make trips westbound to Kennedy Station must take the LINE 3 SCARBOROUGH replacement shuttle bus routes or the 154 CURRAN HALL bus.
