A 98 WILLOWDALE-SENLAC transfer from March 25, 1986.

March 23, 1985

Service begins on a new route merging the 55 SENLAC and 98 WILLOWDALE routes into a single operation. By combining the two routes into one, the TTC could reduce frequencies on these two low-ridership routes, and provide through service. Buses operate from Steeles and Yonge loop via east on Steeles, south on Willowdale, west on Sheppard, looping through Sheppard station, west on Sheppard, north on Senlac, west on Finch, north on Grantbrook, east on Drewry and north on Cactus, looping via Peckham and Goulding. During rush hours, additional service is provided on the old "Senlac" section to Sheppard station.

Service is split during rush hours, with 98A "Senlac" buses running between Peckham and Sheppard station only and 98B "Willowdale" buses running between Steeles Avenue and Sheppard station only. Through "98" service is provided during off-peak hours.

February 18, 1996

As part of a series of system-wide service cuts resulting from the elimination of provincial subsidies for public transit, service after 7 p.m. is eliminated. Monday to Friday rush hour is reduced to every 15 minutes on the Senlac branch, while the Willowdale branch is reduced to 30 minute service at all times of operation. The 98B branch is eliminated, and buses are through-routed through Sheppard station.

September 3, 1996

Weekday early evening service is restored with a bus leaving every hour from Sheppard Station via Senlac at 7:15 p.m. to 10:15, p.m., leaving Peckham at 7:30-9:30 p.m., leaving Sheppard station for Willowdale at 7:45-9:45 p.m. and leaving Steeles from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Buses on this route are equipped with bike racks.

November 23, 2008

As part of the TTC's Ridership Growth Strategy, late evening service is restored, with buses running at intervals of every 30 minutes or better whenever the subway is open. Additional rush hour service is provided on the Senlac portion of the route.

May 8, 2011

As part of a series of system-wide service cuts resulting from municipal budget cuts, late evening weekend service on the Willowdale portion of this route is eliminated.

June 22, 2014

As part of a system-wide reorganization of route branch designations, buses operating to from Steeles to Peckham via Sheppard-Yonge station are redesignated from 98 to 98C.

September 6, 2015

Weekend and holiday late evening service on the Willowdale portion of this route is restored. Buses now operate over the full route at intervals of 30 minutes or better whenever the subway is open.
