19250900 - Rogers Road - Hillary Avenue Subway Plaque

A plaque on Rogers Road beneath CN's Newmarket subdivision, taken by Richard Glaze circa July 1973, commemorates the opening of the ROGERS ROAD streetcar and the Hillary Avenue Subway. Rogers Road was extended west of Dufferin Street at the same time as the streetcar route itself, knocking down houses and taking over short streets that were along the way. Hillary Avenue extended west from the CN tracks until 1925 when the subway opened. The road was renamed ROGERS all the way west to Old Weston Road, but the underpass, as shown by this plaque, retained the old name.
