RT-1 Rail Maintenance Car Car (1952-????)

RT-1 (the numbrs may have been assigned in order of the equipment being called into use) began life as a Toronto Railway Company streetcar, and was rebuilt five times. It once served as a LAKE SIMCOE line express car. Converted for use on the YONGE SUBWAY, it operated off of the third rail and served for decades before finally being retired. The deck and trucks were sent over to the Halton County Radial Railway. This photograph shows RT-1 and one of the original subway rail grinders at Davisville Yards on August 28, 1963. This photo is courtesy the Edward Gibbs collection.
