In 1971, the TTC was in the midst of a transition of its streetcar network. At the time, it was planning to retire all streetcar services by 1980. A year later, the TTC would abandon its streetcar abandonment policy, but much of its fleet was still nearing the end of its service life. The newer all-electric PCCs were able to be rebuilt and rehabilitated, but it was still the end of the line for the older air-electric PCCs. Railfans at the time, knowing their last chance to take pictures of these venerable cars, went out of their way to charter these vehicles for their last rides. TTC air-electric #4199 was a popular vehicle, and this gallery covers many of those last trips taken during the TTC’s 50th anniversary year.
